STATEMENT OF FAITH

WE BELIEVE...

Our vision can be summed up in the statement:

"On earth as it is in heaven"

This statement helps summarize God's intention for how people are to believe, and it's a really clear pattern for how we engage life!

To bring heaven's reality to earth, we are confident that wholeness will come into every dimension of a person's life as they are:

  • RESTORED

  • EQUIPPED

  • EMPOWERED

THEOLOGICAL FRAMEWORK

The process of God bringing wholeness to the world can be summarized as a story.

Here are the bullet points of that story:

  • GOD EXISTS:  We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons and expressions - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; co-eternal in being, co-eternal in nature, co-equal in power and glory, having the same attributes and perfections (Genesis 1; Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; John 10:30; 2 Corinthians 13:14).

  • GOD SPEAKS AND REVEALS HIMSELF:  We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testament to be the inspired word of God, the final authority for faith and life, inerrant in the original writings, infallible and God–breathed (2 Timothy 3:16, 17; 2 Peter 1:20, 21; Matthew 5:18; John 16:12,13).  We believe that God has spoken throughout history to people called prophets in many manners and different extents, and that Jesus was sent to earth to speak with people as an exact representation of God (Hebrews 1:1-2).  We believe the Holy Spirit now speaks to us to convict of sin, righteousness, and judgment and that He was sent to be a helper, comforter, and counselor to Christians (John 14:16).

  • GOD CREATES AND CALLS:  We believe that God created everything through Jesus.  We believe that the creation of man lies in the special, immediate, and formative acts of God and not from previously existing forms of life (Genesis 1:26-27, 2:7-9, 16-17, 3:1-19, Romans 1).  We believe He created man from the dust of the ground in His own image, and made man a living soul.  God draws people to Himself and has made a covenant to call them sons and daughters (Genesis 1, Psalm 19:1-4, John 3:16, John 6:44, John 16:8, Romans 5:10, Ephesians 1:18).

  • GOD IS PERFECT, EXPECTS PERFECTION, AND JUDGES:  We believe that all people have sinned and fallen short of the perfection and glory of God (Romans 3:23).  We believe that God’s perfection requires Him to not permit sin or imperfection to enter His presence, that He will not allow sin to continue unchecked, and that He judges all people according to their actions (1 Peter 1:17).

  • ALL PEOPLE ARE SINNERS:  We believe that man was created perfect in the image and likeness of God, but that through Adam’s disobedience and sin, the human race incurred not only physical death but also that spiritual and eternal death which is separation from God, and that all human beings are born with a sinful nature, and we are sinners in thought, word, and deed. We believe this condition has completely alienated people from God.  We believe that from birth, man is totally depraved, and of himself utterly unable to remedy his condition of being separated from God (Genesis 1:26, 27; Genesis 3:1-6, Romans 1:18, Romans 3:10-22, 23, 5:12,19; Ephesians 2:1–3, 12).

  • GOD LOVES, RECONCILES, AND SAVES US FROM THE CONSEQUENCES OF OUR SIN:  We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became a human without ceasing to be God.  This occurred as He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary, in order that He could live a human life as the Son of God who revealed and explained who God is, demonstrated God’s love for us, and redeemed sinful man (John 1:1, 2, 14; Luke 1:35). We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished our reconciliation to God through His death on the cross as a representative, vicarious, substitutionary sacrifice.  We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace and is received by each person as a personal act of their belief in the Lord Jesus Christ and His claims (Ephesians 1:7, 2:8-10, John 1:12, 1 Peter 1:18-19, Acts 16:30).

  • ONCE WE ARE GOD'S SONS AND DAUGHTERS, WE ARE PERMANENTLY IN HIS FAMILY:  We believe that all the redeemed are kept by God’s power and are thus secure in Christ forever (John 6:37-40, 10:27-30; Romans 8:1, 38- 39; 1 Corinthians 1:4-8; 1 Peter 1:5). We believe that the fruits of a persons life (actions, lifestyle, obedience to the commands of Jesus) demonstrate whether they are children of God.  The privilege of true children of God is to rejoice in the assurance of their salvation, bearing in mind that not all things are profitable and we are forbidden to use our freedom as an excuse to live according to the flesh (Romans 13:13, 14; Galatians 5:13; Titus 2:11–15).

  • JESUS ROSE FROM THE DEAD, AND THERE IS A RESURRECTION FOR ALL PEOPLE:  We believe that our justification before God is made certain by Jesus’ literal, physical resurrection from the dead (Romans 3:24, 1 Peter 2:24, Ephesians 1:7, 1 Peter 1:3-5).  We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ ascended into heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of God, where, as our High Priest, he fulfills the ministry as Representative, Intercessor, and Advocate (Acts 1:9-10; Hebrews 7:25, 9:24; Romans 8:34; 1 John 2:1-2).  We believe in the bodily resurrection of all the dead: the saved to a life of eternal glory and bliss in Heaven with God; the unsaved to eternal judgment of conscious suffering and woe in the lake of fire (Matthew 10:28, 18:8-9, 25:41-46, Mark 9:43-49; John 5:28-29; 1 Thessalonians 1:6-9; Revelation 20:6, 11-15, 21:1-8).

  • JESUS ESTABLISHED THE CHURCH TO PROCLAIM HIS SALVATION TO THE WORLD:  We believe that Jesus established an ever growing assembly of people to be in his family.  This is termed "the church" (Matthew 16:18).  We believe that the church is a spiritual organism, composed of ‘living stones’ which are all born–again people (Ephesians 1:22, 23; 5:25–27; 1 Corinthians 12:12–14; 2 Corinthians11:2).  We believe that the church is the body and espoused bride of Christ.  We believe that the wisdom of God is proclaimed through the church throughout the world, and the method for doing this is through establishment and continuance of local churches as taught and defined in the New Testament Scriptures (Acts 14:27, 18:22, 20:17; 1 Timothy 3:1–3; Titus 1:5–11). We believe in the autonomy of the local churches, free of any external authority and control, but in relationship with each other (Acts 13:1–4, 15:19–31, 20:28; Romans 16:1, 4; 1 Corinthians 3:9, 16; 5: 4–7, 13; 1 Peter 5:1-4). We recognize believer’s baptism and the Lord’s supper as scriptural means of testimony for the church (Matt. 28:19, 20; Acts 2:41, 42; 18:8; 1 Corinthians 11:23–26).

  • GOD SENT HIS HOLY SPIRIT:  We believe that the Holy Spirit was sent by God, that the Holy Spirit is a person who convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment; and that He is the Supernatural Agent in regeneration, that he baptizes all believers into the body of Christ, gives gifts, indwells, seals, empowers for service, guides, teaches, witnesses, sanctifies, and helps the believer unto the day of redemption. (John 16:8–11; 2 Cor. 3:6; 1 Cor.12:12–14; Rom. 8:9; Eph. 5:18)

  • THE HOLY SPIRIT EMPOWERS AND EQUIPS HIS CHURCH TO PROCLAIM THE GOOD NEWS OF JESUS:  We believe the Holy Spirit dwells within those who believe.  The Holy Spirit fills people, and provides real power to Christians so that they express His goodness, and are enabled with gifts and power to bring the authority and rule of God's Kingdom to this earth.  The result of this is that we don't have to force ourselves to try to convince people that God is real and loves them.  Instead, through the presence of the Holy Spirit within us, we are His witnesses, demonstrate His love, and are constantly transformed to live a godly and victorious life (Acts 1:8, Acts 2:4, Acts 10:44-46, Matthew 3:11, Romans 8:13-14, I Corinthians 3:16, I Corinthians 6:19-20, Ephesians 4:30, Ephesians 5:18).  We believe that healing and restoration is provided for all people through the redeeming work of Christ and the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit, and is the privilege of all believers (Isaiah 53:5, Mark 16:17-18, John 5:6-14, I Peter 2:24).  We believe that God gives gifts to all people for the building up of His church (Ephesians 4).

  • OUR LIVES ARE INTENTED TO BE FAITH-FILLED AND PLEASING TO GOD:  We believe that all Christians are called to a life of power, holiness, and service to the Lord Jesus Christ and that each Christian is part of the priesthood of all believers (I Peter 2:5, 9).  The closeness of the intended connection between Christians and Jesus is seen in a great marraige.  God instituted marriage as a living example of the relationship between Jesus and his "bride", the church.  The picture of marriage with it's accompanying sexual relationships with expectations of faithful commitment, gives one of the highest examples of God's commitment to His people and His expectations for people to be faithful to Him (Hosea, Jeremiah 3, Ezekiel 16).  Living a faith-filled life means that all aspects of life are submitted by faith to the way that Jesus tells us to live.  As a result, we believe our lives must submit to His design for healthy families.  We believe His teachings allow only heterosexual relationships between a natural man and a natural woman within the confines of lawful matrimony. (Hebrews13:4; Ephesians 5:22, 23).

  • JESUS WILL RETURN:  We believe in the imminent "Blessed Hope," the Rapture of the church before the tribulation, when the "Lord shall descend from heaven" to catch up His bride to meet Him in the air and "so shall we ever be with the Lord"  (John 14:1-3, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, 1 Corinthians 15:15-58).

  • JESUS REIGNS:  We believe Jesus ascended into heaven, is currently there at the right hand of the Father interceding as our High Priest and Advocate, and that He will personally, bodily, visibly return to the earth at the end of the tribulation to establish His millennial kingdom on earth, and to reign as the only Potentate, the King of Kings, and Lord of Lords (Luke 24:36-43, John 20:24-29, Acts 1:9-11; I Corinthians 15:25; Revelation 1:5-7, 19:11-16, 20:6).
